What I do at Pinpoint

As the CEO, I believe my job is to:
  • Set the overall direction and strategy of the company.
  • Communicate this direction regularly to our team, as well as to our prospects, clients and so on.
  • Find, hire, train and support great people against this overall direction.
  • Raise the capital required to achieve this overall direction (sales, debt, etc.)
  • In the short to medium term, plug all the holes (i.e. get stuff out of the way of our team).

Why Pinpoint

There's many reasons to want to work at Pinpoint, but there's one that stands out - you get to join an incredible team of people.

Who am I?

I love designing organisations and building teams and have been fortunate to spend the vast majority of my career to date doing just that. I've never had any preconceived notions around how businesses should be built and over the past ten years have developed a bit of a different perspective on how to create and grow teams 'properly'. Pinpoint is the product of that perspective.

Advice for prospective candidates

At a high level, I'd encourage you to be honest with yourself in terms of the type of role / type of company you're looking for. As per my answer above, we care a lot about our team and invest accordingly - but we expect a lot from you in return. 

In terms of specific advice for your application, I'd focus on two things:
  • Communication Skills: We're a distributed team across a range of timezones - we work hard to get everyone together at least once a week for a team update, but nevertheless a lot of our work gets done asynchronously, so strong written communication skills are extremely important if you want to be effective. Does your application reflect that?
  • Personalisation: Why do you want to work here? We're a fairly transparent organisation and it's fairly easy to learn a great deal about our business, our team, our product, our market and so on. We love great people, but we adore great people that really want to be at Pinpoint (and know why!).
